About Caesar Cipher Encryption
What is Caesar Cipher?
Caesar Cipher is one of the simplest encryption methods, used by Julius Caesar in ancient Rome. It shifts each letter by a fixed number of positions (typically 3). While historically important, it's not secure for modern use due to easy brute-force attacks.
How It Works
- Encryption: Shift each letter forward by N positions (A→D with shift 3)
- Decryption: Shift each letter backward by N positions (D→A with shift 3)
- Non-letters: Numbers and symbols remain unchanged
Historical Significance
- Used by Julius Caesar for military communications
- Foundation for modern cryptography study
- Easily broken (only 26 possible shifts for English)
- Good for learning encryption concepts
Example
Plain text: HELLO (shift 3) → KHOOR
